Getting your test results

If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.

Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:

  • in your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • in your Patient Access account
  • if you do not have online access, results are available from our Practice Secretary on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2pm and 4pm. Please call the surgery and select Option 3.

Please note that results will only be provided after they have been reviewed by a doctor.

For reasons of confidentiality, results can only be given to the patient unless exceptional circumstances apply.

The time it takes for test results to return to the surgery varies depending on the type of test conducted:

  • Blood Tests: Typically, results are available within 3-5 working days, but some specialised tests may take longer.
  • Urine Tests: Usually processed within 2-3 working days.
  • X-rays or Ultrasounds: Results often take 10 working days, although urgent cases may be expedited.
  • Smear Tests (Cervical Screening): Results can take up to 4 weeks.
  • Biopsy or Specialist Tests: These may take several weeks depending on the complexity.
